Why Clara gave two answers about which homes are for rent, and the fix for every company.
2026-09-29 · found at Western Slope · the fix is for all companies
In one sentence: AppFolio keeps two lists of homes, one clean and one messy, and Clara sometimes read the messy one. The fix: each company has one list, and every question reads that same list. Nothing in the fix is about Western Slope.
We checked Situs Group today. They have 0 homes on their listings page but 14 real vacancies in their unit list. "Always the listings page" would tell every Situs prospect "nothing available." So the rule is one list per company, not one list for everybody. Today Situs has the same split as Ember, the other way round: ask broadly and Clara finds nothing; name a building and she finds the vacancies.
If a chat started about Ember Estates, Clara filed every tour under Ember Estates, even a tour for a home on Elm Avenue, which is its own property. Fix: a tour is filed under the home being toured. Also a general rule for every company.
Before we found the cause, we added a setting that hid Ember Estates from Clara. That was a patch for one client, and it also hid 2 homes that are really for rent. Removed It is cleared in production and being deleted from the code.
| Fix | Who it's for | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Clara always reads the listings page | Every company | Being built |
| Tours filed under the home being toured | Every company | Being built |
| Remove the "hide these homes" setting | Every company | Merging |
Proof before merge: tests on Clara's real instructions and replays of 20+ real past conversations from several companies.
These guard against messy AppFolio data in general. Fixes above already solve Ember.
Recommendation: skip for now. Revisit only if another company shows the same mess. Situs Group also has about a dozen "properties" that are really company LLCs at their office address. None have vacancies today, so none get offered.
