In plain terms. Should the after-merge test run count a run where every test passed as a pass, so production is not held for hours by a slow cleanup step? Gera or Fede decides.
The full question, as raised
post-merge-heavy Guard pins 2/3 reds on vitest's onTaskUpdate cleanup timeout with every test passed: 4 of 5 runs on 2026-10-22, incl. 2 of 2 at 15dc99dee, so a one-shot retry would not have unstuck it. Production is held while it stays red. Fix: (a) heavy lane reads the shared vitest-ontaskupdate.sh matcher (reverses the pinned PR-only exemption), plus a hog hunt in that shard; or (b) keep the heavy lane strict and only hunt the shard's event-loop hog (production stays held until found)? Design doc: PR #21737.
Why, and what was tried
The session raising this recommends: Count it as passed + fix the slow test A retry would not have helped today; the matcher already guards two lanes and still reds on any real failure. Tried first, unsuccessfully: Read four red heavy-run logs (all tests passed, only the cleanup timeout, twice on the same commit), six prior onTaskUpdate PRs, the PR-only pin, and triage issue #21734.
