In plain terms. Turn the prod-to-stage data mirror back on now, or leave it paused? Someone switched it off by hand about 13 hours ago during a round of Lambda redeploys, and it's stayed off since — should it come back on, or should the pager stay quiet while it's intentionally paused?
The full question, as raised
stage-replicator's ESM (propflow-prod DynamoDB stream -> propflow-stage, ADR-0110) was disabled via UpdateEventSourceMapping(enabled=false) by IAM user fede-admin at 2026-10-05T17:36:23Z (12:36 CDT), from a residential IP via aws-cli on macOS — coinciding with a ~2h window (12:11-14:04 CDT) where fede-admin redeployed nearly every other prod Lambda. It was never re-enabled. CloudWatch's stage-replicator-invocations-flatline alarm (zero invocations for 6h) tripped at 20:38 CDT. Re-enabling resumes from the ESM's last checkpoint and replays the ~13h backlog (~16-18k prod writes/hr) into stage. The role has stage write-only / prod read-only permissions, so re-enabling carries zero prod risk either way.
Why, and what was tried
The session raising this recommends: Turn it back on The redeploy it coincided with ended ~6h ago with no visible follow-up work on this function since, and the prod stream only retains 24h of history — past that the ~13h gap stops being catch-up-able and becomes a real staging-data hole. Tried first, unsuccessfully: Confirmed via CloudTrail this was a deliberate API call (enabled=false, 'User action'), not a crash or dead consumer. Checked 'blocked outstanding' for an existing block on this — none. Checked config/automations.toml for the ADR-0110 nightly batch backstop (anon-backfill run-nightly) that's supposed to heal gaps like this — couldn't find it registered, so I'm not relying on it as a safety net. Confirmed the IAM role has no prod write permission at all, so re-enabling is reversible and safe in either direction; the only real open question is intent, which only Fede can answer.
